PFAFFENHAUSEN, Germany — Alois Ruf and his band of merry Porsche tuners have a new twist on vintage-inspired limited production: the Ruf Roadster, which is based on a 1967 Porsche 911 Targa.
The Roadster substitutes a pair of lightweight, removable carbon-fiber roof panels for the original's center section, while the original soft-plastic rear window is replaced by a three-layer polyglass unit.
For those willing to pony up the rather rich pre-tax ticket of $272,700, the Roadster comes with a normally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-6 Porsche engine, delivering 394 horsepower and driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. Ruf says the combination will produce a top speed of 183 mph and 0-60-mph acceleration in 4.6 seconds.
For a few extra euros, customers can opt for a 553-hp turbo boxer engine, dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive.
Deliveries are slated to start next year.
