Hello all, I'm Jeremy, age 36, married + 2 I moved to the Netherlands from Israel about 3 months ago and tomorrow, if all goes well, I'll be driving my 'new' 1984 944 back home from Duitsland. For the family I have an Alfa 156 Sportwagon 1.8TS, but I'm considering trading it for something bigger and more practical like a Citroen C5 stationwagon or Picasso (Now that I have a Porsche, the family car doesn't have to be fun to drive ). In Israel I used to own a Peugeot 106 Rally 1.3 which I used to race in autoslaloms, and just drive for fun in the hills (shame there aren't any of those around here... ). I was a founder and later chairman of the Israeli Peugeot-Citroen Sport Club In Israel there are only a few Porsches from the eighties, and no 944s that I know of, so owning a Porsche was impossible for me over there, and now I'm taking the opportunity to do that. In the beginning I looked for 944s at the high end of the price range, willing to pay more for a car in perfect state, but after I saw some cars I realised that they weren't in perfect state (in fact - far from it), and I would probably have to spend quite a bit on them anyway, so I started looking for cheaper cars. Following recommendations from Hollanders, I expanded the search to Duitsland, and ended up bidding for a car on ebay. Thanks to this forum, I got quick help about what the procedure is to bring in a car from Duitsland. Tomorrow I'll know if I made a bad mistake or not... I've never bought a car without "kicking the tyres" first, but as long as the car doesn't have any problems that the seller "forgot" to mention, then it should be OK. I'm starting to learn Dutch this month, so hopefully soon I'll be able to take part in your forums more actively Keep burning petrol! That's what it's there for. Jeremy |

Welcome Jeremy, hope you enjoy living in Holland despite the obvious lack of hills. Luckily, the Belgian Ardennes are only a short drive away (unless you live up north) and they offer a great driving experience. I look forward to seeing pics of your new 944! |

welcome Jeremy! It seems that you either didn't see too many 'high end' 944's, or that your standards are on a very high level . Anyway, it is nice to hear that you are now capable of realising your dreams, albeit with a car bought in neighbouring Germany (in the end, they all originate from overthere ). Enjoy driving your 'new' 944 on the Dutch roads! |

Bedankt for all your welcomes. I drove the car home yesterday evening (Thanks to my wife for coming with me all the way there - and back as well... The seller didn't want to take her in part-exchange for the 944 ) The car is Mechanically sound, clean chassis, but cosmetically challenged, which is why I bought it so cheap. This is OK for me because I want to enjoy driving the car - not looking at it. It's also a basic car - No power steering or aircon or electric windows - so less things that can go wrong At this stage I'm going to concentrate on making sure that it's good mechanically (I suspect the suspension is tired, and the front wheel alignment is out), and if I end up making a good friendship with the car then maybe I'll take care of the metal, paint and interior as well. There are a couple of damages to the sheet metal which were repaired with a very shoddy backyard job, and the paint is worn in a few places. The outside rim of the wheels was painted over some corrosion, and they're going to need a refurbishment job. The passenger seat cover is frayed in a few places, and the drivers in one place, but otherwise the interior is complete. Oh... and the km counter isn't working Thanks and bye for now! Jeremy |
