This car was originally a U.S. version car. A friend of mine wanted an RS and purchased a 73 RS that had a lot of rust. The 911/83 engine was installed in this 1974 Carrera along with almost all of the European equipment (lights, lenses, etc.). (He wanted a Euro car he could drive on the street without the fear of U.S. Customs seizing a grey market car.) He also installed a 1976 Turbo tail to help improve the air conditioning. The car was originally yellow and he painted it black. When I bought it, it had a black interior and I wanted a red interior. (I spent a couple of summers working at Werk I in Stuttgart in the early 70's when the Carrera's first came out. I saw a black with red and felt that was one of the most striking combinations.) A red interior from a Turbo was installed.
I purchased my Carrera (VIN 9114400165) on March 21, 1988. The mileage at that time was 55,212. The engine in my car is a Type 911/83, number *6630371* . Since I purchased the car it has gone about 8,000 miles, has always been in a garage, and never had any body damage from rust or accidents since I have owned it. The car currently has 16” wheels (7 & 8’s) plus I have the original 15” set.
