Mijn eerste Porsche (in Engels)
Hello all,
I'm Jeremy, age 36, married + 2
I moved to the Netherlands from Israel about 3 months ago and tomorrow, if all goes well, I'll be driving my 'new' 1984 944 back home from Duitsland.
For the family I have an Alfa 156 Sportwagon 1.8TS, but I'm considering trading it for something bigger and more practical like a Citroen C5 stationwagon or Picasso (Now that I have a Porsche, the family car doesn't have to be fun to drive
).
In Israel I used to own a Peugeot 106 Rally 1.3 which I used to race in autoslaloms, and just drive for fun in the hills (shame there aren't any of those around here...
).
I was a founder and later chairman of the Israeli Peugeot-Citroen Sport Club
In Israel there are only a few Porsches from the eighties, and no 944s that I know of, so owning a Porsche was impossible for me over there, and now I'm taking the opportunity to do that.
In the beginning I looked for 944s at the high end of the price range, willing to pay more for a car in perfect state, but after I saw some cars I realised that they weren't in perfect state (in fact - far from it), and I would probably have to spend quite a bit on them anyway, so I started looking for cheaper cars.
Following recommendations from Hollanders, I expanded the search to Duitsland, and ended up bidding for a car on ebay.
Thanks to this forum, I got quick help about what the procedure is to bring in a car from Duitsland.
Tomorrow I'll know if I made a bad mistake or not...
I've never bought a car without "kicking the tyres" first, but as long as the car doesn't have any problems that the seller "forgot" to mention, then it should be OK.
I'm starting to learn Dutch this month, so hopefully soon I'll be able to take part in your forums more actively
Keep burning petrol! That's what it's there for.
Jeremy
