Project 951 jonge man de eerste Porsche
Hi Greetings from Finland. When you can a bit english, german & swedish you can almost understand some dutch as wel OK, i try not write any dutch or use translators, so hope you can understand my poor english. We have build very slowly (about two years) a 951 for my eldest son. Since here in Finland we have world third highest car taxation (only those poor Greeks and Danes have higher), so we started from a car which is more or less a wreck. Here's my son wondering would this be a wise move or not Current state Regards, Olli

Re: Project 951 jonge man de eerste Porsche
Well, quite many Dutch words sounds like english, german, or swedish. I suppose i am just good to figure out the sentence meaning. We have a very good Finnish Porsche forum. I just hang around on German, UK, Swedish, USA, Italian, Estonian, Danish etc. Porsche forums . It's just nice to see what people do in the different countries.

Re: Project 951 jonge man de eerste Porsche
Son's project was already doomed to be a parts car. That's why previous owner has sold a lot of parts from it. So, we have spent some time to locate parts we need for the project. Also some clean up has been done. Most of the undercarriage parts will be either yellow passived or powder coated back to their original condition. Some rear axle parts (bolts, nuts, washer etc.) in citric acid bath Parts after citric acid treatment Parts will look like this after new yellow passive (ZNC) tratment My son managed to trade his old rusty original 951 stabilistors to the new ones. I suppose guy who agreed to this deal is some kind of mental case

Re: Project 951 jonge man de eerste Porsche
Booster turned out nice. Too bad i didn't take a pictures when it was rusty Before picture Most of the parts have been powder coated. Most undergarriage parts got rather dull "Platinum Grey" powder on them. We wanted to use powder coat, because it would be easier to keep these parts clean compared to "plain" aluminium. Here's picture of one control arm from where you get the idea of the color we used. As a side project we re-contioned front brakes of friends 951 Restored clutch cylinders.Removed surface rust, then re- painted them. Since we are on tight budjet we used Mercedes W124 rubber parts, which are a direct fit also to 951. Total cost less than 10€

Re: Project 951 jonge man de eerste Porsche
These will be the rear calipers of sons project (since owner is a poor student, we are on tight budjet) Calipers were so sooty; that i put them for overnight citric acid bath Calipers were sooty, rusty etc. because they came from this burnt 964 C4 and after 964 was wrecked they sat in backyard of my friends Porsche shop almost six months I suppose most of soot will be able to wash off tomorrow morning. After that we will remove slide plates and pop off the pistons. Then some media blasting and calipers can be re-suface again to their glory again like they were when Luigi assembled them in Bergamo, Italy years ago After overnight citric acid bath Disassembled calipers. Some difficulties with burnt seals, which glued pistons very effectively. Also had to use mig to couple of screws to be able to take them off. Otherwise "business-as-usual" caliper job. Now they are ready to get a new surface.

Re: Project 951 jonge man de eerste Porsche
Removing a stuck screw: Disassembled calipers: Warm weather continued on summer of 2010, so when it is just about 30 Celsius, it's good time to practice some excercise which needs strong muscles Since i am an old fart, it's younger men business. My son put most of the rear axle to parts. Plan is to remove hubs & torsion bars tomorrow, after that these parts are ready to be media basted and some re-surface. So it was my job to start heater/AC unit overhaul. Car's original unit was damaged in engineroom fire, but luckily previous owner was located a spare unit from a wrecked 1988 951 originally imported to Saudi-Arabia Unit was really dirty, full of sand and some special plants leaves, most likely from Saudi-Arabia, at least i have not seen similar leaves here in Finland. Starting point

Re: Project 951 jonge man de eerste Porsche
951's original heater/AC unit on left reconditioned Saudi replacement unit on right Heater/AC unit install is near, so we checked out inside dashboard wiring. Otherwise it looked more or less OK, but wires which go to the engineroom to those big resistors were burnt more or less. Because copper wire conduct heat too good, we were forced to remove old tape a bit. After we removed a bit, we decided to remove all of it. Now it is easy to check out every single wire. We will build that damaged part and also remove badly done stereo installtion and replace it with ISO-connectors Checking burnt part of wiring Starting point looks quite good in the picture But it was not so good after all. Some parts were so dry, that tape was more or less loose. Now it is easy to make all repairs. After that we will put there few rolls of Jaybird hockey tape, as usual Had some spare time, so we started with my youngest son Peter to fabricate some "tuning" parts for eldest son's 951. When you are on budjet, you do them by yourself. Well, just molds at the momet Peter puts som gealcoat on (no masks were used, because it was very windy)

Re: Project 951 jonge man de eerste Porsche
First glassfibre& epoxy added Borrowed some hightech tools from my wife Three sheets of glassfibre should be enough. The finished product should look more or less like this First mold is ready. Peter did great job with gealcoat Here's the unfinshed mold: We picked up about 50KG's of various parts from plater's shop. These has been plated with new liquids which does not contain chrome-6, which is now not allowed to use within EU countries. The shade of color is not as yellow as it used to be with "good-old-toxic" liquids. We are going to change interior color from burgundy to black & marine Blue, so next step was to change roof liner color

Re: Project 951 jonge man de eerste Porsche
from this To this We removed rear side windows to be sure black paint goes where it is needed. Son bought a engine from Scotland My son check out the condition of cylinder wall's. All 4 cylinders looked like new My son bought a dump valve for his project. Similar ones will be installed by two friends of mine for their 951's. This valve is well known design here in Finland and have been on market over 10 years. Very popular on 500-1500hp drag race cars

Here's similar dump valve installed into friend's two 951's 3.0L street 951: 2.5L 951 track toy: Here's a set of Techart (OZ) wheels son bought from a friend of mine Fronts Rears Test fitting Junior did some painting. Also this area was damaged by the engine fire. Area was easy to prepare after the damaged windshield was removed. Now there is a nice coat of satin black paint. Son also repaired wiring loom section which goes to heater blower and windshield wiper's motor. Now we are ready to install heater/AC unit and 968 dashboard
